Emma's been on the waiting list of a preschool that a lady in our ward does. She's super inexpensive because she's an occupational therapist and doesn't do preschool for the money. She only takes a class of 8: 4 boys and 4 girls. Emma was 3rd on the waiting list, but the first girl. Last week a boy dropped out, but since the boys in the class are pretty "lively", she wanted another girl instead! Hallelujah! We found out on Sunday, and Emma started the next day. She has been asking me to go to school for the last 3 months, so this has been a total blessing! I'm also glad that she started before baby sister was born so that there wasn't too much change for her all at once. Usually when I drop her off at places, she'll ask me to stay for a little bit. This time, she told me that she wanted to go to school all by herself! When her teacher asked if she needed to give me a hug and kiss before they started and I left, she said, "No, I'm just fine!". Needless to say, she loved every second of it!
Here is her very first first-day-of-school pic with her plastic backpack chuck-full of playdough, her purse, a pencil, and an eraser...all things she found necessary for her first day of school. :)
So I can't figure out why this picture uploaded this way. Sorry. Anyways, this was one of the things she did at school on her first day. They learned which animals went where during the winter. She learned intense words like hibernate and migrate!
Her first homework assignment. She even stumped her math teacher mom when she didn't color the train tracks yellow because "they aren't rectangles, mom". Upon closer examination, you can see that they are in fact parallelograms, not rectangles. Emma has the patience of her mom when it comes to coloring. As you can see, there is no time to color in between the lines...especially when the shape is big. :)
I promised Emma a few months ago when she begged to have a backpack and go to school that when she did end up going to school, I'd buy her any backpack she wanted. She obviously remembered that promise and we set off right after school to buy her a backpack. She already knew the exact one she wanted: Rapunzel. Luckily, the first store we went to had exactly what she asked for. :)
I'm SOO grateful that Emma can finally go to preschool! Hallelujah!

ah! I love that backpack--I want one just like it! She is the cutest little preschooler. I think that is so cute that she has been so excited to go to school. And I'm glad she loves it! That's awesome. And, how great to find a place that is affordable but a place that you trust.
and you never know when you're going to need play dough. Good thinking, Em.
sooo cute! Wow that is exciting and such a relief that she went so well and didn't need you to stay with her.
